Curtains and window treatments can make or break a room. They can also break the bank if you have a lot of windows. Luckily there are a lot of ways that you can save money when it comes to window treatments. For farmhouse window treatments you need to keep them light and bright with touches of texture (including wood) and black accessories.
Today I am sharing a collection of beautiful and clever (yet very affordable) examples of modern farmhouse curtains and rods.
FARMHOUSE WINDOW TREATMENTS
NEUTRAL FARMHOUSE CURTAINS WITH TEXTURE
I LOVE this look from LiveLaughRowe. The typical modern farmhouse curtain look is with white curtains with a black rod. Which I adore. But installing these Levelor cordless Banana Leaf Natural Shades gives the look gorgeous texture. These are a must in our new home!
DIY FARMHOUSE STYLE DROP CLOTH CURTAINS
Liz Marie is a fantastic source for farmhouse decor. These DIY Farmhouse Drop Cloth Curtains are pretty simple to make and look gorgeous in any room. I am going to use these in our playroom and guest room.
See tutorial below if you are interested in making these affordable curtains.
STEP-BY-STEP DROP CLOTH CURTAIN TUTORIAL
Sarah Joy has a thorough tutorial detailing the step-by-step process including materials needed to make beautiful drop cloth curtains for any room. Simple. Affordable. Beautiful.
SIMPLE FARMHOUSE WINDOW TREATMENTS WITH HOOKS
NO SEW RUFFLED FARMHOUSE WINDOW TREATMENTS (USING TABLECLOTHS)
The Temperance Rose blog gives us another example of no sew curtains using tablecloths. The idea is very similar to using drop cloths but you have more options in style and color using tablecloths. There are some great examples of neutral tablecloths on Amazon as well as Target and Walmart.
NO SEW BLACKOUT CURTAINS
I was so happy to find this tutorial from The DIY Playbook for No Sew Blackout Curtains. Neutral curtains are beautiful and will actually enhance a light and bright space…. which is not always desirable in a bedroom early on a Saturday morning. I love that she uses IKEA curtains keeping it affordable too.
IKEA FARMHOUSE CURTAIN HACK
I love this IKEA curtain hack from Home Made Lovely. Very clever. And results and a gorgeous, flowing, neutral curtain. Perfect for a soft, minimalist living room or bedroom.
DIY FARMHOUSE CURTAIN RODS
Gorgeous real wood curtain rod tutorial from Maison dePax blog. You definitely need the right tools for this one but it’s worth it. They really enhance and frame her windows.
RECLAIMED WOOD CURTAIN HOOKS
If you want the look of real wood and cannot make (or do not have time to make) the Restoration Hardware look above…. these reclaimed wood curtain hooks from Olive and Love are simple and affordable to make. She uses them for a bathroom shower curtain (great idea!) but it could be used as a window treatment as well.
Our Iron Strap Wall Hooks would be perfect for this too!
DIY INDUSTRIAL CURTAIN ROD
You may have noticed with some of the items we sell that I like to incorporate subtle industrial touches with modern farmhouse. These DIY Industrial Curtain Rods from Making Joy & Pretty Things are a perfect example of adding a touch of industrial to neutral farmhouse decor.
$5 FARMHOUSE WINDOW TREATMENTS (USING A SHEET)
I had to include these $5 curtains from MustHaveMom. Lots of versatility with color and size when you make curtains out of sheets. She uses Walmart’s Mainstay brand paired with Walmart black curtain rings.
BLACK PAINTED WINDOW TRIM
I am excited about everything in this picture from Chatfield Court. I love the black painted window trim with the soft window treatment. The farmhouse sink paired with an iron faucet. And the set of 3 black farmhouse lights above the window. Just perfect.
